Abstract
- In this paper, we present the results of numerical and experimental investigations of a prospective antenna which can be used, for example, as a base-station antenna in cellular telecommunication systems. The antenna is a half-wavelength dipole surrounded by periodically arranged capacitively loaded wires. Its operation is based on the recently suggested principle of the wire-medium artificial lens. The development of this concept can possibly lead to the design of compact (0.2–0.5 wavelength in diameter) electrically controllable base-station antennas. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
