Abstract

Charlie also has an ongoing and active role in the Classroom Champions program, which connects students in high-need schools with top performing athletes to help them recognize their potential, set goals, and dream big. Those who feel their expertise rests more in the technical aspects of the sport are drawn to coaching where they can help skaters learn proper jump and spin technique. Age in the sport is highly variable, and using it to explain success can be misleading; you can have solo female skaters winning the Olympics at age 15, whereas I was 26, but let's not dwell on that. Better to be "Charlie White the dorky guy who laughs too loud and who spends a lot of his time skating" than "Charlie White the skater who does dorky things and laughs too loud.".
