Repair of the railway bridge over the river Main near Stockstadt – substitution of the shore spans at record speed The substitution of the shore spans of the railway bridge over the Main near Stockstadt is a remarkable project in many respects. On both sides of the main bridge the two shore spans, which continue over three spans each, had to be replaced in the context of an immediate action because of structural damage. Because of the scheduled time limit for execution of construction works, the superstructures were designed similar to proven twin girder temporary railway bridges. Apart from an overview on the history of the structure, this article outlines specifics of the structural design, construction and erection of the new shore spans. In this context, the article focuses on the special features such as the very short planning‐ and construction period of seven months only from February to August 2019, and the re‐use of the existing bearings.
