This study presents the contribution of terminology to the construction of Knowledge Organization Systems (KOPS). Discusses and makes conjectures on the concepts of Knowledge Organization and Representation (KO), Terminology, and Specialty Languages with a focus on terminology for the development of SOCs in the context of Information Science (CI). The study was characterized as theoretical-bibliographical, the research was carried out with national and international journals and books in the field of CI and related areas. The objectives that guided this article are the contributions of the interface of terminology concepts with documentation in the organization and development of terminology control instruments for the representation and retrieval of information, thus organizing the knowledge of an area of specialty. Knowledge Organization Systems (KS) are conceptual and semantically structured systems that help standardize terminology and help organize and retrieve information in Information Science (IC) with greater accuracy and relevance. It is concluded that terminology structuring functions as an important factor in the construction of SOCs, thus ensuring effective conceptual understanding in a specific area, without problems of ambiguity and clear communication between researchers and professionals.
