RETÓRICA E HAGIOGRAFIA: A VITA MARTINI.

This work aims to identify the rhetorical elements that are present in Vita Martini, from Sulpicio Severo, hagiographic text dating from fourth century of our era. We take as reference, to analyze the proposed theme, above all, the rhetorical art of Aristoteles, a work that deeply influenced posterior rhetorical systems, mainly with regard to the middle age. We also tried to highlight in the work in focus, the matrices of hagiographic genre that would develop, during the medieval period, considering the fact that Vita Martini is considered the first text of the genre in latin language.
