Abstract

Lymphoma or lymphosarcoma is considered the most common malignant tumor in cats, representing one third of all malignancies diagnosed in felines. Food lymphoma is the most common anatomical form in this species, followed by mediastinal and multicentric. Food lymphoma can be divided, histopathologically, between small cells, lymphocytic, low grade, well differentiated, or large cells, lymphoblastic, high grade. Large granule lymphoma is a subtype characterized by the presence of Natural Killer T lymphocytes, which have a characteristic presence of intracytoplasmic granules. The types of food lymphomas are distinct neoplasms, with different clinical presentations, therapies and prognosis. In addition, it is difficult to differentiate them from other non-neoplastic diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and other chronic inflammation of the feline gastrointestinal tract.
