Abstract

Advanced concepts of optical modelling present one of the key tools for analysis, design and optimization of modern optoelectronic devices, such as solar cells and light-emitting diodes. However, since the structures of these devices are becoming increasingly more complex, they can only be accurately treated by means of a coupled modelling approach, in which different parts of the device are analyzed by different numerical models. In this work, we focus on coupled optical modelling of high-efficiency heterojunction silicon solar cells and organic light-emitting diodes. Employing optical simulations in both cases, we first analyze the performance of the initial device structures, with a special emphasis on the analysis of optical losses. Then both devices are enhanced with a surface-textured light-management foil at the front side by which the in-coupling into the solar cell and the out-coupling out of the light-emitting diode are improved significantly. We evaluate the performance of the surface-textured devices compared to their initial structure. In the final part, we optimize the geometrical profile of the surface texture to obtain an optimal device performance in both types of the studied optoelectronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
