As expected, pre-exercise whole-muscle glycogen content was different between all sessions (HIGH > MIXED > LOW) and was directly associated with performance times, with greater muscle glycogen pre-exercise associated with greater time-to-exhaustion. Although pre-exercise glycogen content in all locations was associated with exercise performance, pre-exercise content of intermyofibrillar and subsarcolemmal glycogen more strongly correlated with time-to-exhaustion than intramyofibrillar glycogen, while this association was inverted following 60 min of exercise.
