Abstract

Anati reviews a number of such traces, from "mother goddess" statues (of both sexes) and cave paintings to natural and artificial sanctuaries. Anati compares statues, art, and sanctuaries that are deemed to be associated with early religious practices with much more recent phenomena. From the sum of the evidence at hand, Anati argues that religion dates back at least to I Homo sapiens i , but probably is older still. [Extracted from the article]
