Abstract

The Friends of' Goose Pond, the Indiana Academy of Science. the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish and Wildlife, the Sassafras Audubon Society, and Duke Energy Foundation hosted the second biodiversity survey or bioblitz at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area. Greene County. on 18 19 June 2016. Over 95 scientists, naturalists, students. and other volunteers on 17 different taxonomic teams observed and reported 883 taxa during the event. The 17 taxonomic teams included aquatic macroinvertebrates. bals. bees, bectles. birds. butterilies. fish. freshwater mussels. herpetofauna. small mammals. moths. fungi and slime molds, non-vascular plants. odonates. singing and non-singing insects, spiders . and vascular plants . State listed animal species included the endangered evening bat ( Nvcticews humert//is ). the rare northern pearly - eye ( Le / he anthedon ), the special concern Blanchard ' s cricket frog (Acris hianchm cli ). the Eastern box turtle (Terrepene carolina) listed as a special protected species, and the slate rare jade clubtail C Arigomphus sithnwdiamiS), State listed plant species included heavy sedge ( Cm·ex gravida, state endangered), Bushk sedge (Carex hu.yhii, state threatened). and four species listed on the stale watch list - lapertip flatsedge ( C')'pe,71.3 acunli„( itlts). American lotus ( Nehunhu huect ). Eastern gamagrass ( Trips £, ctint darn·h,h/es). and downy yellow violet ( 170/u pidiescens). The plant team also reported a potential new state record. southern cattail C Trpha domingensis). The spider team reported six new distribution records for Indiana (i.e„ state records) and 2 undescribed species. The state records include a stealthy ground spider (Drassi'/hts ere/1/ims). a sheetweb weaver (Ag.1,/ietc, spi('ida). two dwarf weavers (Fh„·ic·o,mts m.,//'citits and 61·(1111) 1101101(1 Chi·it(11(6. a wolf spider . ( Schi - orosa striduhms). and an agile running crab spider ( Philod/·milits himm·ic'ams). in addition. many Greene County records were reported.
