Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the effects of energy consumption and human capital on economic growth in EU-15 and Turkey through the AMG estimator under the cross-sectional dependency. It is important to note that well educated and skilled society is a crucial requirement, in order to use in an efficient way of existing resources and to increase the share of renewable energy. Therefore, human capital level and efficient usage of energy are crucially important requirements especially for countries dependent to foreign energy resources. The result of the Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test shows that there is bidirectional causality between economic growth and energy consumption. Accordingly, it can be stated that feedback hypothesis is valid for EU-15 and Turkey. Based on the finding of the causal relationship between human capital and economic growth, the study emphasizes the necessity of qualified human capital accumulation, in order to promote feedback hypothesis and to implement innovative policies to enhance energy savings.
