Abstract

The problem of communal rights in medieval Castilla livestock economy is studied here in the general context of feudalism crisis, reconsidering the impact of certain encroaching practices in the use of pasture and forests, and their implications in the development of differentiated estates. This text analyses three regions in order to identify an individualization of peasantry's property rights and its correlate in institutional processes that intervened in community power distribution. It aims to specify the impact of political and market factors in village societies through changes found in livestock practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
