Abstract
- In this study, determining the impact of biscuit-type joining elements produced in 3-D printers on the bending moment resistance was aimed in “L” type corner joining. For this purpose, wood-based material 18 mm thick MDF-lam, wood-based biscuit, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) and Polylactic Acid (PLA) produced with 3-D printer, biscuit joining elements obtained from thermoplastic based filaments are used. Test samples, according to (ASTM D 1037-06a, 2006) standards were subjected to; diagonal tensile and compression moment tests. According to the experiment results, the tensile moment values was determined to be higher than the compression moment values. The wood-based biscuit joining element has the highest values, the wood-based biscuit joining element was followed by the biscuit assembly elements obtained respectively from PLA and ABS-based materials produced in 3-D printer in the compression test; while the wood-based biscuit joining element has the highest values in the tensile test, this was followed by ABS and PLA biscuit joining elements. In the tensile test, it was observed that the biscuit joining elements produced with 3-D printer technology gave close values to the wood based biscuit joining element and that these elements can be used as an alternative to the wood-based biscuit element for the corner joining of the furniture elements.
