Abstract

The Brazilian agrarian question is complex and heterogeneous, which allows for the awakening of different interpretations - paradigms, theories, concepts, ideologies and even development policies. Throughout this presentation, the agrarian question is interpreted as a structural contradiction of the capitalist mode of production that expropriates and subordinates peasants. In order to break with the relationships of subjection to capital, peasants, especially those organized in socio-territorial movements, are building autonomous and emancipatory socio-territorial practices. Via Campesina's agroecology and food sovereignty proposal are some examples. However, these practices and proposals are directly related to the struggle for land and land reform. This is because they are fundamental to the existence and resistance of peasant agriculture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
