Abstract

For the force health protection of military personnel, it is essential to identify, with the greatest degree of detail possible, the threats to which military personnel may be exposed. For this purpose, SENSOR project of research has been included in the National Military Research Plan, whose objective is the development of innovative materials and methods for the characterization of various insect vector/pathogen agent systems according to the entomological, microbiological and biotechnological profiles. Among the innovations introduced, taking into account the intrinsic conditions of the remote areas where it will be deployed, SENSOR stands out for the simplification of field activities to allow non-specialists to set up the system, collect samples and safely send them to the reference laboratories for details at the genomic level for the certain identification of the pathogen of interest and determination of the degree of infectivity. The materials and methods developed, here discussed, will allow the planning and implementation of all prevention and containment measures (hygiene, prophylaxis, isolation) necessary for the health security of the personnel overseas as well as the adoption of pharmacological therapies.
