Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the perceptions of Physical Education (PE) teachers of Basic Education (BE), of a public education network, at a city in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), in different phases of the teaching career, on the valuation and devaluation factors of PE in BE. The research was a qualitative of the case study type. The research instrument was a questionnaire, being the interpretation of responses carried out through of the content analysis. Participated twenty-five PE teachers from BE of the education network and city refereed, being five of which were from phase of the teaching career (entry; stabilization; diversification; serenity and/or conservatism; and, divestment). We conclude that, all phases of the teaching career were generated of appreciation indicative factors(1- 'the PE discipline is that the students like most in the school curriculum'; 2- 'the contribution of the PE discipline in the formation of citizenship in the student '; and, 3- 'the mandatory of the PE discipline in the school curriculum') and devaluation of PE in BE (1- 'the ignorance of the school community about the importance of PE discipline in the school curriculum'; 2- 'the lack of PE working conditions at school'; 3- 'the nonparticipation of the PE teacher in school decisions'; and, 4- 'the lack of qualified and committed PE teachers in schools'). Thus, in this scenario, the PE in BE is more devalued than valued. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
