Abstract

Objective To explore the learning curve of fetal system ultrasound examination in middle pregnancy for continuing education physicians. Methods From January 2018 to December 2018, 6 trainee physicians were selected to learn fetal system ultrasound examination during mid-trimester in our department. According to their work experience, they were divided into group A (ultrasound work in gynecology and obstetrics for ≥ 2 years) and group B (ultrasound work for < 2 years), with 3 physicians in each group. The first 200 cases of ultrasound examination data of each physician were selected, a total of 1 200 cases were analyzed. According to the time sequence of ultrasound examination, each 40 cases was a learning curve segment,and there were 5 learning curve segments. Each case was scored according to the standard ultrasonographic images. The average image scores between each stage and between groups A and B were compared, and the learning curve was drawn. Results The average scores of the two groups showed an upward trend. There was significant difference in the average scores of each stage in each group ( < 0.05) . There was significant difference ( < 0.05) between Group A and Group B at Stage 1~4 , but no significant difference at stage 5 ( > 0.05) . The inflection point of operation score was 120 cases in Group A and 160 cases in Group B. Conclusion It is a gradual process to learn fetal system ultrasound examination during mid-trimester. Trainee physicians with basic ultrasound operation in gynecology and obstetrics need to complete about 120 cases, and those without basic ultrasound operation in gynecology and obstetrics or with little experience need to complete about 160 cases,then they can master the skills of fetal system ultrasound examination in the second trimester.
