Abstract

The article reports on the September 2020 policy statement from the U.S. Federal Reserve, which showed that near-zero interest rates could last until 2023 to promote economic recovery following the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Also cited are the expected high unemployment and economic stagnation due to the pandemic, as well as the move by Robert S. Kaplan of Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and Neel Kashkari of Minneapolis to vote against the policy.
