Abstract

In the Brazilian semiarid region, the uneven distribution of rainfall influences the way farmers in the region plan to maintain livestock throughout the year. The objective of this work was to study several native and exotic species commonly introduced in the pastures and Caatinga typical of the region. In order to provide innovative alternatives that increase the diet of animals in the region, especially in drier periods, we present animal feeding options that minimize production costs. Forage samples from herbaceous and arboreal extracts in the caatinga at the grazing sites were collected in the municipality of São José da Tapera, state of Alagoas. The plants were collected according to the indication of plants consumed by the animals. The studied species showed good results in their bromatological composition and may be alternatives for the producers during the dry periods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
