Abstract
- This article presents information about the 39th anniversary of the historic Voting Rights Act, which made it possible for African Americans in the U.S. to vote. These celebrations were conducted by members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). CBC Chairman Elijah Cummings called the Voting Rights Act a "major milestone" in the nation's democracy because its mandate speaks to the most essential exercise of citizenship and the right to vote in the United States. Cummings said in an interview that had it not been for the Voting Rights Act, millions of African Americans and other people of color, would not have access to this precious right.
