Bioinformatics is an emerging interdisciplinary subject in the field of natural science， whose research situation has attracted the attention of many scholars. In order to understand the research situation of bioinformatics at home and abroad，this paper takes the journal articles in the field of bioinformatics in CNKI Database and Web of Science Database as research objects. Based on bibliometrics method and co-word analysis method， the research status，hotspots and trends of bioinformatics at home and abroad are summarized by R programming tool. Results show that the bioinformatics research at home and abroad is both in the stage of high-speed development. The amount of literature is increasing year by year，and the research area is expanding. The research hotspots at home and abroad both focus on gene mining， protein structure and function prediction， and miRNA analysis， etc. However， domestic research tends to be theoretical， while international research pays more attention to the application in disease treatment，drug design and so on.
