Abstract

The contemporary history of the Zoque people from Chapultenango, Chiapas, is characterized by the dispersion of its members. Various territorial displacements, migratory flows, and natural disasters have produced a diaspora. This article discusses the Zoque migratory flows that began in the 1990s to the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It also discusses the labor niches that the Zoques established and examines their communication, contacts, and investment with their communities of origin. Finally, we explore the dynamics of the Zoques' cultural and identity reproduction in their adopted place of residence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
