Abstract

Introduction : Bone-related dimensions are more applicable for sex determination because these are not affected by the passages of time. We aimed to evaluate the value of frontal sinus parameters for gender identification. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on 159 cases. According to CT scan, three dimensions including maximum height of frontal sinus, maximum width of the sinus as well as the distance from the highest part to external border of the frontal sinus on both sides were measured. Data were analyzed by using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: measuring the distance from the highest part to external border of the frontal sinus in both left and right sides for predicting gender [AUC (area under the curve) of 0.820 and 0.828, respectively]. Conclusions: Different diameters related to the frontal sinus can be used for gender identification among Iranian population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
