Abstract

This article discusses the issue of widening of the flyovers in the United States. Crews completed in late August the widening of a recast segmental fly-over bridge in Miami-Dade County— the first job of its land in the mainland United States. A segmental bridge is not unique, but widening one is a first on the U.S. mainland, according to the American Segmental Bridge Institute. The designer and engineer of record, Tallahassee-based Westinghouse Corp, was concerned about traffic loads once the cantilevered wings were lengthened and moved out to new parapets.
