Abstract
- The article focuses on the book "The Papers of Christian Gauss," edited by Katherine Gauss Jackson and Hiram Haydn. It is plain, from the testimony of his former students at Princeton, that Christian Gauss was an extraordinary teacher. Edmund Wilson has acknowledged his debt to him in a tribute that serves as a prologue to "The Shores of Light," and has indicated that John Peale Bishop and F. Scott Fitzgerald were also profoundly influenced by his teaching.
