Comparative analysis of x-ray computed tomography techniques in an experimental study of anatomical preparations of the dentofacial system.

In the course of this study, 57 extracted teeth and a dried mandible with metal structures were scanned using multislice, cone beam and microfocus cone beam computed tomography devices. Comparative evaluation of three- dimensional and two-dimensional tomographic reconstructions was performed. Sharpness and clarity of small low- density details as well as suppression of artifacts from metal objects and tooth enamel were the highest on microfocus reconstructions compared to the other techniques.
