Abstract

In December 2019, a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) emerged in China and subsequently spread globally, with a pandemic of the disease (COVID-19) being declared by the World Health Organization in March 2020.1 The first confirmed cases in the UK were reported in January 2020, and over the next few months, restrictions were placed on individuals and businesses to limit spread of the virus. COVID-19 continues to circulate in healthcare facilities and the community, and patients are still fearful of attending hospitals. Staff had to adjust rapidly to scale down services, cancel or defer patient appointments and procedures, and field calls from concerned patients. [Extracted from the article]
