Abstract

The congenital renal anomalies of migration, structure and function are the result of a cephalic migration alteration from the pelvis to the ureteric bud and mesonephric blastemal of the renal fossa. This process stars in the fifth week of its gestation period and finishes in the ninth week. Kidney malformations are not frequent and they rarely have a clinic meaning. Among the migration urinary tract anomalies are: the simple renal ectopia, and regarding structure and fusion, the crossed renal ectopia and the horseshoe kidney. Generally, this disease is asymptomatic since it is casually discovered by radiation or other means. The symptomatic cases that present repeated urinary infections or obstructive uropathy are not frequent. In this paper, we will go into a weird variation of structure and fusion; the crossed renal ectopia. The crossed renal ectopia is the second fusion anomaly regarding frequency after the horseshoe kidney. Two cases of crossed renal ectopia are described in this paper, one of which has been found in the Subject of Anatomy at Universidad de Mendoza, and the other is about radiologic discoveries of registered cases from a patient in the Nephrology Service at Hospital Central de Mendoza.
