Abstract

Prevention actions have been considered adjuvant strategies for public health, especially for the health of the elderly. In this sense, health culture has the capacity to promote health protection as a possibility of guaranteeing rights and citizenship. However, difficulties in identifying adequate didactics and pedagogical resources in disease prevention actions in the elderly are a problem in the scientific literature. Recognizing this need, this article aimed to analyze the health culture instruments used in the prevention of diseases in the elderly from 2006 to 2016. A survey was carried out using the Medline, Scielo, BIREME, LILACS and CAPES databases using the descriptors: health education, disease prevention, the elderly, and their English counterparts, published from 2006 to May 2016. After selection criteria, nine studies were selected. In view of the results found in this research, it was possible to identify that the health culture actions carried out in the investigated period had significant positive effects. When analyzing didactics and pedagogical resources, there was a lack of systematization of processes for the promotion of health education. The actions were focused and did not cover an expressive elderly population. Further research that deepens and highlights the importance of appropriate methodologies for the elderly is necessary.
