Abstract

In March other Central American countries began to establish containment measures against COVID-19. However, in Nicaragua, for some inexplicable reason, government resistance stiffened and raised into the "thousands" massive party events, as well as sports, tourist, and cultural events. Given the regime's inaction, numerous steps to support public health were undertaken by independent medical, civilian, and academic groups. The pandemic reveals the true nature of the health system in Nicaragua: limited, lacking in supplies, and neglected, with its services in a state of collapse. Data provided by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), with its increase in public disinformation, conceal the undeniable community transmission of the disease. The reaction to the pandemic confirms that the arbitrary exercise of power in Nicaragua has destroyed its pillars of democracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
