Abstract

This article discusses French-Tunisian relationship. In the period just after the settlement of the Indo-Chinese affair when French-Tunisian cooperation seemed to symbolize a decisive turning point in French colonial policy-- and when French opinion almost unanimously recognized in Habib Bourguiba the most reasonable, the most occidental and the ablest political leader of the Arab world. Mr. Bourguiba's obsession was then essentially "motivated by the divergence between Tunisian and Algerian nationalism.
