Abstract

The youth unemployment problem, with the increasing impact of globalization, maintains its importance as a serious problem faced by developed and developing countries in today's world economy. Policymakers' perception of the youth unemployment problem will also affect the level of utilization of young people through new employment channels. This paper is based on two main objectives. This youth unemployment in the primary objective of the EU and Turkey before the study was to investigate by comparing the development in the 2000-2018 year, macros factor in causing youth unemployment and to determine the micro-level and to provide a variety of alternative policies within the framework of the economic policies implemented in these reasons context. The secondary aim of the study is to examine the relationship between youth labour force participation rates, inflation, economic growth, education expenditures, foreign investment flows and youth unemployment rates for Turkish economy over 2000-2018. The results of the regression analysis performed with the least-squares method reveal that the increase in the labour force participation rate of the youth increased the youth unemployment, and there is an inverse proportional relationship between the inflation rate and the youth unemployment rate. It also shows that the increase in economic growth reduces youth unemployment, the increase in education expenditures decreases youth unemployment and the increase in foreign direct investment flows decreases youth unemployment.
