Abstract
- Reports that real-estate investment trusts, or REITs, are ringing up impressive gains, but some experts fear the sectors foundation could soon show some cracks. REITs, which primarily invest in a portfolio of real-estate investment trusts that own properties in hotels, apartments or office buildings and pass rental income on to shareholders; Modest price tags and attractive yields from REIT, which averaged a whopping 17% annual gain over the past five years, compared with a nearly 2% annual loss for Standard & Poor's 500-stock index; REIT investors, women of whom are worried that rising interest rates may cause risk-averse investors to switch to fixed-income securities.
