Abstract

The article presents the authors' views regarding use of the pocket-veto power by former U.S. President Richard Nixon. According to the authors, the veto power was used by Nixon with the aim to reduce federal spending. They state that Nixon vetoed 38 bills in his first five years in office, most of them were appropriation bills, out of which only five were overridden. It is stated that his attempt to use the pocket-veto power in December 1970 received strong reaction.
