Abstract

Objective: To understand the contribution of academic leagues to nursing formation. Methodology: Exploratory-descriptive study, with qualitative approach, fulfilled with 31 students from five Academic Leagues of the Nursing course at Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú in Sobral - Ceará - Brazil, in the period of March to May 2017. Data were collected through focus group and analyzed through Minayo thematic analysis. Results: The main results show that the methodology adopted by the leagues contributes to the strengthening of teaching, research and extension, as well as, that students are motivated to participate by the desire to have other experiences in the field of nursing, early insertion into the territory, curriculum qualification and reinforcement in teaching and learning. Conclusions: Academic leagues are potent experiences in changing the health care scenario, mediated by teaching, research, extension, assistance and social transformation actions, thus contributing to nursing formation.
