Blood eosinophils: In quest of a Holy Grail for personalized asthma treatment with biologicals.

Treatment strategies for asthma are changing dramatically with many novel molecules entering the market, especially within the group of biologicals. Currently, the most important biomarkers for GINA step 5 biologicals comprise total IgE (for omalizumab), peripheral blood eosinophil cell count (for anti-IL5/IL5R and anti-IL4Ra therapies) and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (for anti-IL4Ra therapy).
