Abstract

Treatment strategies for asthma are changing dramatically with many novel molecules entering the market, especially within the group of biologicals. Currently, the most important biomarkers for GINA step 5 biologicals comprise total IgE (for omalizumab), peripheral blood eosinophil cell count (for anti-IL5/IL5R and anti-IL4Ra therapies) and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (for anti-IL4Ra therapy). Authors investigated if PBE counts before treatment could predict clinical, functional and/or biological outcomes following mepolizumab treatment in this patient population.
