Abstract

Objective. The family and the social environment are the aspects that have more weight in decision-making for career choice. This study focuses on analyzing the socio-family motives that influence students for choosing Vocational Training Cycles. Methodology. A quantitative research approach is used, from a descriptive methodological design. The information was collected using the Determinants Questionnaire for choosing the Vocational Training Cycle for a sample of 98 first-year students from the Region of Murcia (Spain). Results and conclusions. Gender, family income, other sources of study financing (work and scholarship), as well as the influence of the peer group stand out as variables of greater influence in the choice of studies, being the interpersonal variables one of the best predictors for choosing career pathways.
