B Author Information b An event is serious (based on the ICH definition) when the patient outcome is: * death * life-threatening * hospitalisation * disability * congenital anomaly * other medically important event * Drug interaction A 66-year-old man developed small bowel necrosis following concomitant use of sevelamer for hyperphosphataemia and sodium polystyrene sulfonate for hyperkalaemia [ I routes not stated i ]. The bowel resection specimen revealed acute ischaemic enteritis featuring mucosal ulceration associated with crystals morphologically compatible with sevelamer and sodium polystyrene sulfonate, acute organising serositis, submucosal arterial and venous thrombosis.
