Abstract
- The 400-year natural history of a tropical coastal mangrove-fringed lagoon: What can we learn? Coastal lagoon ecosystems are important natural carbon sinks but are threatened by both climate change and direct human disturbances. Enhancing carbon sequestration and reducing soil erosion of the hinterland ecosystem may decrease the carbon sink of lagoon ecosystems, but can provide long-term increases in carbon sequestration and ecosystem services of the coupled hinterland-lagoon ecosystems.
