Abstract

This article presents information regarding maternal child nursing. Maternal tactile contact with the infant has been studied, until fairly recently, primarily in terms of the significance of contact for the infant. Through the experiences of being held and touched an. infant first learns of his mother's love for him and develops a sense of confidence and trust in the response of a supportive external environment to his needs. There has been little investigation of the significance of maternal contact with the infant for neo-maternal development. The taking-on of maternal responsibilities ties in relation to a given infant can be accomplished only through interaction with that infant.
