The article reports that the Air Force apparently has zeroed in on most of the people whose backgrounds would qualify them for a future cadre of space-qualified professionals. Commander of Air Force Space Command, General Lance Lord, said that this does not mean an independent space corps is on the way and that possibility of such a move is "dysfunctional." But observers say development of the cadre, currently including scientists, engineers, program managers and operators in the Air Force, is yet another move that could at least position space warriors for their own service.
