Abstract

Acute fibrinous organized pneumonia is a rare lung disease of non-infectious origin characterized by the presence of fibrinous plugs at the alveoli. There are a few cases reported in the literature. It occurs in almost all age groups and it is in association with other systemic diseases. There are two forms of presentation: a severe form that leads to acute respiratory failure and a subacute form that has a better prognosis. We present the case of an 80-year-old woman in whom the diagnosis of acute fibrinous organized pneumonia was confirmed. This disease is subdiagnosed, therefore there is insufficient information about it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
