Abstract

After intraperitoneal administration of a soluble solution of aluminum nitrate to lactating Wistar rats, the subcellular behavior of this element was investigated through two sensitive techniques of observation and analysis namely TEM and EPMA. The Ultrastructural study of ultrathin glandular mammary sections of treated rats allowed the presence of electron dense deposits within the lysosomes of this variety of cells. In fact, aluminum toxicity associated to suffering mitochondria was also reported. However, no loaded down lysosomes were identified in glandular mammary sections of control rats. The microanalytical study showed that aluminum was concentrated in the lysosomes of mammary glands as insoluble phosphate salt like it was demonstrated for gallium. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
