Abstract

The study areas; Elazığ-Keban and Malatya-Yeşilyurt (Cafana) are located in the Eastern Taurus Orogenic Belt. Trace and rare earth element geochemistry of samples collected from organic matter bearing dark gray-black lithologies of Permo-Triassic Keban and Malatya Metamorphics, were investigated. These lithologies consist of metacarbonate, metapelite, - shale and limestone, in the study area. Organic matter-rich sedimentary rocks (black shale, bituminous shale and carbonates) and meta-sedimentary formations (bituminous schist) are very important for the accumulation of rare and trace elements. Therefore, it is known that there is a strong correlation between the concentrations of organic carbon and U, Ba, Sb, Cd, Mo, Rb, Se, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, Cr, V, Pb. The trace elements and rare earth element contents of the studied rocks are two to three times higher than the crust mean (Clark) values. The presence of framboidal pyrite in the samples and, positive Ce and negative Eu anomalies indicate that the lithologies are formed in an anoxic sedimentary basins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
