Abstract

The article talks about the response to a polarisation in Catholic reactions to the quincentenary year of the Lutheran Reformation with the help of Martin Luther's and Joseph Ratzinger's theologies of conscience and their background. Topics include the theology of the counter Reformation seeing an internal rupture of genuine Catholicism; the theology of Joseph Ratzinger in relation to the situation; and the relationship between Luther and Ratzinger through the theology of conscience.
