Abstract

The article focuses on the role of John A. Macdonald, who was the prime minister of Canada from 1867-1891, in the lives and struggles of the Indigenous peoples and the structure of settler colonialism in British Columbia. Topics covered include discussion to remove Macdonald's statue from the entrance to Victoria's city hall in 2018, views of social psychologist James Wertsch on Macdonald's national significance, and his role in the issue of Indigenous oppression and discrimination.
