ŘEDITEL KNIHOVNY DR. BOHUŠ VYBÍRAL. VYŠŠÍ STÁTNÍ ÚŘEDNÍK V INTERAKCI S VEŘEJNOU MOCÍ (1918-1948) I. ČÁST.

The presented study deals with the persona of a long-time director of the Study/University library in Olomouc, Bohuš Vybíral. It gives a framing overview of his life, his studies in Vienna and especially of the period of his leadership of the Study/University Library in Olomouc in the years 1918-1958. The political regime changed several times in the area of Czech lands in the given period and this reality had an impact even on the activity of the middle and high public servants in the cultural sector. The study deals with the means of practice, instruments and methodology which Vybíral used in his occupation-related and public work. h rough a comparative methodology, we were comparing the main legal regulations regarding library science and public education from the years 1918--1948, cultural and culturally political strategies and key events (the struggle for preservation of the Study Library in Olomouc, protection of the historic library fund at the end of the second world war, procuration of German book confiscation, renewal of the Palacky University) and their reception by Bohuš Vybíral. These aspects moulded the period of the First, Second and Third Republic and the protectorate and we tried to describe the type of a higher public servant with an excellent education and great language prerequisites who was socialized during the period of the Habsburg Monarchy.
