Abstract

Research on the education received by children and adolescents from Migrant Rural Working Families has focused on the school population, despite the fact that eight out of ten do not attend school. For this reason, very little is known about the condition of educational lagging of migrants in entities where there are no schools for this population, such as the State of Mexico, where the present investigation was conducted. The study sought to identify the main factors that made possible or impeded the access and permanence of migrants to the Mexican educational system. Through semi-structured interviews, life stories were recovered to recognize the migratory, work and school itineraries of Migrant Agricultural Workers, Children and Adolescents. Among the findings, common patterns were identified on five groups that share different school itineraries: 1) those who did not access the educational system, 2) those who completed some primary education but did not complete it, 3) those who completed primary school, 4) those who entered secondary education, but did not finish and 5) a very small group that managed to complete basic education. These itineraries were related to migration and employment, to understand the way in which these aspects affect each other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
