Abstract

The article focuses on the need to improve corrections-based health care in the United States. It states under 0.1 percent of National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research grants focus on justice-focused health research and mentions two NIH-funded training programs focusing on prison populations provide mentored research opportunities. It talks about health disparities that mass incarcerations in the U.S. have created and the need for more funding for multidisciplinary training programs.
