Abstract
- He also undertook the challenge of taking the I nin'yo shiken i , the "appointment examination", which is the first step in the Soka Gakkai's doctrinal training system to learn the basic terms and ideas of Nichiren Buddhism and Soka Gakkai's history. McLaughlin pays considerable attention to the fact that Soka Gakkai, too, produced and has continued to produce large numbers of publications, such as its own daily newspaper I Seikyo Shinbun i , the multi-volume novel called I Ningen Kakumei i ( I Human Revolution i ) and others. McLaughlin reminds us that Soka Gakkai officially celebrates its founding moment as 18 November 1930, when the first president Makiguchi's book I Soka Kyoikugaku Taikei i ( I System of Value-Creating Educational Study i ) was published. I The Human Revolution i and I The New Human Revolution i are Soka Gakkai's official history, and they are the I seishin no rekishi i (the "history of the spirit") of the Soka Gakkai, as Ikeda himself describes in the novel.
